DISCIPLINEIAMA

Core Principles

IAMA teaches BJMA Zen Do Kai freestyle: a comprehensive martial arts system drawing from karate, boxing, Muay Thai, judo, jiu-jitsu, and Krav Maga. The system was designed to be practical, progressive, and well-rounded.

But the curriculum at IAMA goes beyond physical skills. Every belt level is paired with intentional psychological development. Students do not just learn how to fight; they learn how to think, how to regulate, how to persevere, and how to act with integrity under pressure.

This integration of physical and psychological training is the foundation of everything IAMA does. It is informed by Dr. Matt Walley's PhD in Cognitive Psychology and applied deliberately through a 12-value character development framework mapped to belt progression.

Five areas of structured development

Psychological Discipline

Regulation, focus, and calmness under pressure are developed intentionally at every belt level. The dojo is a training ground for the mind as much as the body.

Physical Resilience

Conditioning, coordination, and physical confidence built progressively. Students learn to set goals, push limits, and recover from setbacks on and off the mat.
